Definition of the Spanish Word Administracion

Administracion is the direct translation of the English word administration or management to Spanish. Administration is the process of running an organization, a business, or an office. Consequently, the administrators are the ones who provide direction and leadership to these entities.

Administracion can be used and defined in different contexts. Although the main principles behind them are just the same, there are unique differences between each entity. For example, administracion in a business per se is different from administracion used in a government setting. On the other hand, Systems Administration is different from Academic Adminstration, as far as straight applications are concerned.

The word administration actually rooted from different terms in different languages. Initially, it is derived from the Latin word administratio, which compounds "ad" and "ministratio". "Ad" means "to", while "ministratio" means "to give service", in the Latin language. Soon, the French language adapted the same word and "administration" came into being. However, when the English adapted it, it became "administracioun". It was partly modified to make it applicable to be of use in their language. But over time, it reverted back to the word "administration" and it is used in the way it is accepted today. Following the same pattern, the word "administrcion" was integrated in the Spanish language.

In a business perspective, administration is the process of supervising a business operation to make it work, perform in the market, and eventually become successful. Administracion corresponds to the process of making and implementing major decisions and to make the business flourish. Administration in a business context is usually divided into different subgroups, especially if a rather big company is concerned. Administrators can be hired to man the finance, personnel, and production aspects of the company. These there are the basic branches. But depending upon which industry the company belongs a number of other departments may be created requiring able administrators.

Administracion in a government per se follows the same ideas, but it is different as far as the sectors and the nature of work are concerned. In the government, the president or the head of state is the most powerful person. And because of this, the word administration is attached to their names. The "Bush Administration" and the "Carter Administration" are good examples of this. The president's name is directly used to describe or refer to the particular government they are handling.
