When blogs entered the online world sometime in 90's, its purpose was generally to offer people a portal where people can jot down their thoughts, everyday activities, schedule and the like. 1. Choose a blog provider
There are a number of free blog services that you can consider. Among the most popular free blogs are blogger.com and wordpress.com.

2. Choose a suitable name for your blog
Choosing a blog name is like choosing a domain name. Keep it short and simple. It should basically describe your blog's content and should be interesting enough to attract others to drop by your blog.

3. Choosing a blog layout
There are a number of blog templates that you can use to spice up your blogs. You can find them on the Internet for free. Your layout should also coincide with your content. For instance, if you were blogging about sports car, an image of a car on the header would look nice.

4. Getting ready to manage your content
If you are using wordpress or blogspot, there are a number of default texts and links that you can edit out. Enter useful links that are related to your site on the link section. Watch out for default text entries that you should edit out as well.

5. Write your post!
After you getting your layout done and editing default entries, then you are ready to start posting your entries.

Keep in mind that a blog should be something personal. You should talk to your reader as comfortably as you can. Write as if you are talking to your personal friend so that your post would come out smooth and light. If done so, it would attract more readers in your site and would get the visitors to post comments in your blog.

6. Promote your blog
It isn’t exactly enjoyable to start a blog without any readers. The key in blogging is interaction, so you most definitely need to promote your blog. What you can do is make friends with other bloggers by dropping their sites, add a comment and a link to your blog too.

Blogging should be fun! Starting one is easy. It would not only be a way to share your thoughts and idea to others, but it can also be a source of traffic for your existing website.
