How To Kickflip

There are a lot of skateboard enthusiasts who are not only making skateboarding as their hobby but it has become their own personal sports and even a profession for a few people. There are various skateboard techniques that are becoming more and more popular nowadays and kickflips is by far the most loved of them all.

Kickflipping is like flying away with your skateboard. The basic thing about kickflipping is to prepare for a good jump. Jumping on a steady height and jumping forward is really the main key for a good kickflip. If you are a skater and wanted to know how to kickflip, here are a few things for you to know:

1. Position your feet
Good foot positioning should is the main key for a good kickflip. You must have your leading foot's heel just across the edge of your board. This would leave about half of your foot area still resting on the skateboard.

2. Crouch
You must be comfortable with your foot positioning. If you already are, then crouch. If you lower down your crouch, then you get more force when come up and jump.

3. Jumping
When you jump, jump forward and lift your back foot. If you want to have a perfect landing, it is important to jump forward and stay above your skateboard. If in case you did not stay above your skateboard, the tendency of your skateboard is to shoot forward and it will not stay in place.

4. The flick
After doing the jump, the flick follows. Give in some amount of force and flick your toes outward. The more force you give in to get the skateboard outward, the faster the skateboard would spin. By default, if you have a good food positioning, the flick is geared sideways.

5. Don't kick downwards!
If you kick downwards, you have a chance of not landing with a stable footing. Although a lot of people kick downward because it proved to be easier, the result is not always a successful landing.

6. The catch
Use your back foot to give the skateboard a room to rise up. The skateboard would normally spin under your feet, you can use your feet to make it stop. Once you stomped on it, then your done!

Probably the most difficult part in doping a kickflip is the first part of the flip. Good foot positioning is important. Once you get the hang of it, doing a kickflip is would be easy and fun.

  1. This site was pretty good and encouraging….I just started skating and my ollie down. I can almost doa popshovit. Everytime I kickflip i get the flip down and don’t land. It is a big thing before if I could just get it to flip now I understand it better. All the other sites are like…”Get great foot positoning, flick the board suck up the legs for the catch.” I don’t have any skater friends that can do this except one who can’t land it all the time. You need pix for this site.

  2. Thanx… This site helped with the jumping section.
My problems with my kickflips is that they alwas shoot out and I dont know how to fix that. And also, if you jump higher, will that keep the board from shooting out?
