Indian Railways largest Rail networks in the world
Today Indian Railways is given the name of the busiest and the Largest Railway networks all over the World.It was maintaining a Monopoly in the Indian Transport Industry until recently and it’s a State Owned Railway company of India and transports around six billion passengers and 750 million tonnes of freight annually with the worlds largest number of employees employed which is around 1.6 Million employees.
The Indian Railways are spread all over the country covering a route of 63000 Kilometers and as per the records Indian Railways runs a total of 14400+ trains on daily basis which includes the passenger trains.Railways were first introduced in India in the year 1853 and by the year 1947 , the year India got Independence there were around fourty two railway systems.By the year 1951 whole Indian Railways systems was centralized making it the largest network in the world which includes the short distance and long distance rail systems.
The original plan for this Rail System in India was put forward in the year 1832 but was not implemented for more than a decade, and by the year 1844 Lord Hardinge – The Governer General of India allowed private businessmen to setup their own rail systems.East India Company was asked to assist the new two upcoming railway companies and the first train became operational in the year 1851 which was a good train to Roorkee followed by the passenger train in the year 1853 which run between Bori Bunder, Bombay and Thana totally covering a distance of 21 miles.
