What Is Hezbollah?

Political disputes give rise to a lot of organizations that are hard-pressed to stand up for their own convictions. Hezbollah is one these political organizations which is based in Lebanon. Hezbollah literally means "Party of God", where "God" refers to Allah, the Islam God. It was founded in 1982 by Lebanese Shiites. This organization rise up during the time Israel troupes invaded and settled in Lebanon.

This Islamic group was organized to counter Israel invaders. It was headed by Secretary General Hasan Nasrallah. He studied in Iran and claims that Hezbollah is the only Arab military force to defeat Israel. They are a lot of concerned local and international communities who calls for Hezbollah to disarm, but to no avail. With the help and support from Iran, they were able to form into a stronger force and were able to build their very own armed forces. They even have their very own TV station. They also created their very own federation and political leaders, it was a complete and organized institution.

Back in 1983, Hezbollah made headlines as their attacks send the US to retreat because of a suicide bombing that killed over 200 marines. Israel forces then headed to Southern Lebanon to retreat. The Hezbollah continued their attacks to Israel forces with missile attacks. Israel finally withdrew by the year 2000.

Although Israel withdrew their forces in Lebanon, in 2006 Hezbollah entered Israel and terrorized its border. They killed several soldiers and launch missiles in civilian areas. It was said that Hezbollah forces join and hid among civilians while doing their attacks. This tactic made Israel to question a number of civilians who were suspected to be Hezbollah members.

International groups, including the United Nations, demanded the Hezbollah troupes to disarm. A cease-fire was agreed among the concerned nations in 2006. But still, a lot of people are doubtful about the cease-free and worries that this may be the opportune time for the Hezbollah to re-organized and re-arm.

It is conclusive that Hezbollah has ties with Syria and Iran. It was said that these are the nations who support this militant group by supposedly providing them with arms and money. Although a lot of people consider Hezbollah as a military force, some also view them as a legitimate political group.
