Besides playing the role of acquiring of new funds, investment banking also offers advices for a wide range of services to companies. One form of advice towards raising capital would be with regard to public offerings (IPO’S).Investment banking also provides input on mergers and acquisitions. This is the top most strategy of advice that the bank would prefer to offer. The main function of an investment bank is to buy and sell financial products on the bases of the bank’s client and also for itself as a bank. Besides helping customers to raise funds in the capital markets and advising on mergers and acquisitions, investment bank also involves in coordinating with bidders and it also negotiates with regard to merger issues.

Merchant bank is another name for investment bank. Investment bank operates a financial intermediary or in other words it’s an institution which acts as an advisory agent for companies to raise money by issuing and selling securities in the capital markets. Various securities like shares, bonds and also real estate etc. are professionally managed, to meet specified investment goals for the benefit of the investors. The investors can be referred as insurance companies, pension funds, corporations etc. An investment bank considers sales and trading as the most profitable area of working. For an investment bank, sale is the term used to call on institutional and net-worthy investor so that they can be suggested about trading ideas and take orders accordingly.

An investment banker does not accept deposits. The so called merchant banking or the investment bank purchases all the new security issues from a corporation at one price and then sells the issue in smaller denominations. Investment bankers perform major works for IPO’S and bond issues. Most people belonging to the middle market group, do not have a clear vie point about what an investment bank exactly does. They may not be aware of the entire role played by the investment bank. One must understand that a middle market investment bank uses private offerings to raise capital. It also deale with

mergers and acquisitions in order to form liquidity. In today’s times, many private equity firms are willing to accept the fact that entrepreneurs can now take money off the table during investment. Mostly, investment banking firms are registered with the NASD. It is known that banks are getting more active in investment products, as a result of which, the availability of the overall product will increase. At present, the running trend in investment banking is electronic investment banking. Through investment banking, an institute generates funds by drawing public funds through capital market. This is done by selling stock in their company. Also to acquire a stake in the concerned company, investment banking will draw public funds through capital market. Mega banks also associate services which involves investment banking. These are made available to clients which benefits them. These days, making a career in investment banking is easily recommended. But one must know that an investment banking career involves a lot of traveling and one has to face a cut-throat competition lifestyle but followed by huge incentives.
