Oriental Bank of commerce Review
Oriental Bank of commerce was established in the year 1943 in Lahore by late Rai Bahadur Lala Sohan Lal who was the first chairman of the bank. As a result if partition the registered office was shifted from Lahore to Amritsar. The bank paid every rupee back to the depositors of Pakistan after the partition.
The Grameen projects introduced by the bank are to handle the maladies of poverty. It also helps to identify the reasons responsible for success and failure of the policy. This project was first implemented in Hanumangarh District (Rajasthan) and Dehradun District (UP) which gave loans starting from Rs 75 onwards. Women are the most beneficiaries from this scheme. This bank has also provided training for the local folk to make proper use of raw materials available with them. As a result this created employment and thus improved the standards of the people.
The main focus of the bank is on rural development. It introduced “The Comprehensive Village Development Programmer” in the year 1997 at three villages in Punjab and other two village sin harayana. This programme was a great success and overjoyed by the response the bank extended this scheme to many more villages. Till date it covers over 15 villages which provide infrastructural development to farmers. It has also introduced the debt relief and waiver schemes under the government of India to help the poor farmers where their loans are cancelled
This bank has a strong financial growth every year; total business grows 27.04% every year. Deposits grow by 29.06% every year as given by the bank. This indicates the people have strong faith with the bank policies. The bank has net profits of 8.80% in the current financial year. The shares of the bank have improved drastically from Rs 5.56 to Rs 8.80 as given by the bank.
This bank also has IT enabled products like the online trading, casemate card for students, online educational loans, and online payment of taxes. The bank is planning to open another 100 branches across the country to expand not only its business but to improve the lives of the poor farmers.
This bank main vision is developing the rural India. If the educated youth want to help the poor farmers financially this bank serves them the best.
