Krav Maga is a self defense system adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces. It was developed by a person named IMI Lichtenfeld. Krav Maga means contact combat in Hebrew. Apart from the Israeli Defense Forces, this practical martial art has been adopted by a few key US organizations such as New York Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Lichtenfeld perfected this difficult on the streets of Bratislavia and later in the streets of Israel. During the first two decades of 20th century, the Jews all over the world were targeted by armed thugs. Bratislavia was no exception and Lichtenfeld grew up amidst life threatening street fights in his hometown. His father was a self defense techniques and Lichtenfeld learnt the skills from his father who was also a Policeman. As the plight of the Jews in Europe grew worse, Lichtenfeld had to relocate to Palestine (Now Israel). He actively participated in the creation of modern Israel. The everyday struggles and street fights continued in Israel as well and Lichtenfeld got the opportunity to test his martial arts skills in real and potentially dangerous situation. He served the Israeli Defense Force as an instructor for about 20 years. He taught his invaluable street fighting techniques to the Israeli soldiers. He was specialized in unarmed combat. He began to train civilians after retiring from the Defense Services. After this, Krav Maga also gained popularity in many states of the USA as a self defense mechanism.

Krav Maga is a simple self defense technique. It is ideal for hand to hand combats on the streets where no rules or forms exist. Anybody can use Krav Maga techniques as they are simple and easy to apply. Unlike other martial arts, Krav Maga teaches techniques of survival under extremely dangerous circumstances. All the techniques in Krav Maga are effectively tried and testes on the dangerous streets of the Middle-east. This form of martial is ideal for people from all walks of life including women and children. In fact, many of techniques were developed to help women defend against attackers. An expert exponent of Krav Maga can even tackle multiple attackers. For many years, these techniques were not made public due to security reasons. But now Krav Maga can be learned by anyone including civilians. This fine form of street fighting should be popularized throughout the world. The techniques taught in Krav Maga have the potential to save lives. There are dangerous corners in many city streets of the world and criminals are lurking everywhere and specialized fighting techniques like Krav Maga can save our lives from attackers. The techniques used in Krav Maga include striking at vulnerable points of the attackers and using the natural reflexes of the body to neutralize an attacker and use any object or tool at our disposal.
