Tata Indigo Reviews

TataTata Indigo, India's first sedan is adorned with state-of the-art features that offer not only total comfort and luxury, but international safety as well. The Indigo comes equipped with a 1405 cc engine that generates 85bhp.At a very competitive price, the Tata Indigo offers great value for money. It is available in both petrol and diesel options.

Tata Indigo comes with a lot of India-specific features. Keeping in mind Indian users, and their general bodily structure, the Indigo's front seats have been given additional lumbar and thigh support for more comfort during long distance drives.

Indigo has longer wheel-base and has 14-inch wheels compared to the 13-inch wheels that are the standard in most of the C-segment cars. The Indigo is built on a steel monocoque frame that has passed European standards of full frontal and offset frontal crash tests as well as all the major endurance safety tests. It has also been fitted with a fire-preventing inertia switch, which minimizes fuel leakage during an accident. Other safety features include rear safety belts, collapsible steering wheel, and side-impact beams and crumple zones.

The IndigoXL was originally an experimental long-wheelbase version that Tata Motors had developed about a year ago. Staying true to its previously successful strategy, the company has stuck to providing great value even in the new IndigoXL.
The IndigoXL is clearly targeted at the customers who may be considering other premium sedans, such as the Honda City, the Hyundai Verna and the Ford Fiesta, which have fewer luxury features but a bigger brand name.

For the IndigoXL, Tata Motors' engineers worked hard to achieve a basic purpose. The wheelbase of the car should be stretched enough to offer the rear passenger ample legroom, which was currently not available, and frankly unthinkable, in the Rs 7-9 lakh price range.

So, the wheelbase of the Indigo has been extended from a current 2,450mm to 2,650mm, an additional 20 cm of space between the wheels, much of which has gone into dramatically improving the legroom in the rear. The longer wheelbase has allowed for big rear doors that open wide, permitting easy accessibility to the rear seat. The turning radius of the new IndigoXL, however, is only about 0.5 meters more than the sedan's 5 meters.

As much of the IndigoXL passengers will be of the chauffeur-driven kind, Tata Motors has softened the suspension set-up to improve the ride quality at the rear and offer a more muted ride.Priced at Rs 7.7 lakh, the IndigoXL's value-for-money-cum-luxury-feel proposition is easy to see. Institutional buyers will find this combination irresistible, but weaning away brand-conscious individual buyers in this price segment will be a more difficult task for Tata Motors.
