Tata Sumo Review

Tata Sumo is a multi-utility car released by the Tata Motors of India. The Tata sumo quickly made a name for itself in a market which had never seen anything modern than the Mahindra vehicles. The Tata Sumo can by all means rightfully claim to have created the utility vehicle segment in India. The Tata Sumo has regained its position as the largest selling multi-utility vehicle (MUV) in the country, ahead of Toyota Qualis and Mahindra’s Commander and Marshal Series of vehicles.
Tata Sumo has defiantly stood out and has emerged as the largest selling vehicle in the MUV segment in spite of a general impression created by the industry that the entry of the Qualis would affect its sales. Not only have the sales of Sumo exceeded those of the competing models, it has also surpassed its own sales in the previous fiscal. The sumo is quite capacious and useful and it would take eight people in comfort and at quite a clip. The Sumo was face lifted extensively and renamed as the Sumo Victa in face of competition from relatively modern competitors.
The Sumo is still sold as low cost option with a little modification. This one is also badged as the Tata Spacio. This car is powered by a Direct Injection or DI Diesel engine. This Power plant is very refined & creates almost no vibrations. Also it is extremely fuel efficient as all other Tata engines. Although it is not also as powerful as the 2.0l turbo charged with the Victa. The model comes in 8 & 10 seater variants and is very much popular with private transporters & contract taxi vendors because of it's lower cost.
The Engine type is 4cylinders with longitudinal positioning and runs on diesel. It has a displacement of 1948cc with a bore and stroke of 80x90mm.It produces a maximum power of 68 bhp at 4500 rpm and a maximum torque of 12 kgs at 2500 rpm.The transmission of gears is manual and the number of gears available are 5.
It measures 4450 mm in length and 1700 in width. The ground clearance is 160mm and the wheel base is of 2500mm.It weighs about 1710 kgs and gives a maximum speed of 107kph.
The Sumo is bigger and better than all its main rivals. It is powered by the very smooth 1948cc unit which powers the TATA Estate & Sierra. At high cruising speeds also, engine noise and vibration hardly disturb. The ride of the Sumo is defiantly very acceptable. The Sumo, therefore, is a comfortable highway cruiser, ambling along in a relaxed manner, in overdrive.

Tata Sumo Victa is the most sluggish Vehicle you can ever drive. There is a manufacturing problem in the Vehicle. The Bosh Pump supplied by Lucas is non-caliberated(as per the Tata Motors Service Centre), Needs to be sent once every 6 months for re-calibration! Vehicle dosent move up a speed-breaker in first gear with A/C on! Forget the Ghats. You need to be Herculese to press the Clutch! Drive it over a bump over 40kmph & the Heads of passengers at the second & 3rd row hit the roof(literally). You need to be foolish enough or really unlucky!(like me to own one. Long Live Tata Motors!
