This is the first BlackBerry smartphone that allows you to travel globally on CDMA and GSM/GPRS networks. As the phone switches automatically between CDMA and GSM without changing anything else, one has the freedom to full mobile data and voice coverage in 62 countries and 157 countries respectively.
The smartphone is slim and sleek and features a 2.5 inch diagonal display with 65 000 colors and a pixel resolution of 320x240. The light-sensing technology it has gives one the opportunity to view the screen in any environment as it automatically regulates its lighting. The smartphone boasts a QWERTY keyboard allowing easier and effortless typing for text and email composition as well as a modem capability. The keys are convenient and user-definable with send, end and mute keys. The BlackBerry 8830 contains popular file formats such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and WordPerfect. Its modem capability implies that one can use the BlackBerry 8830 as a wireless modem on your laptop especially since it supports Verison’s EV-DO network. The smartphone boasts of a Bluetooth 2.0 which uses wireless headsets and hands- free kits. The multimedia has an in-built media player where one can listen to music from MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB and MIDI formats and also watch videos. A microSD card can be used to store larger media files. One can play music whilst using other applications in the phone. The videos can be played, stopped, fast forwarded and rewinded by just using the trackball.
The smartphone also boasts other advanced features which include speakerphone and voice activated dialing, smart dialing, conference calling. Besides the built-in memory of 64MB, there is also an expandable microSD memory slot.. It allows you to send texts and images through its SMS and MMS. With the touch of a button you can stay in touch with the instant messaging using Yahoo! Messenger and Google TalkTM. The smartphone also boasts wireless email and allows you to view with popular file formats such as Word. To stay in touch with the world, the BlackBerry 8800 features the browser, the organizer, the Corporate Data access and to top it all the GPS. You can navigate with the GPS to give you your geographical location and location-based applications and services. There is also the unique pre-loaded BlackBerry Maps feature which lays directions and allows you to view maps whilst traveling on the road. The BlackBerry 8830 can sync with the BlackBerry Enterprise server of your organization and support Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino to convey email in time. The phone supports up to ten accounts together with POP3 or IMAP4 accounts. The email wizard directs you through the process of setting up.
