Sony Ericsson K850 Mobile Phone Review
The rebirth of Cybershot –this is exactly what Sony Ericsson aims behind bringing out their latest addition. Be it the luxurious 5MP autofocus camera or the monolith body with digicam like battery cover or the swanky D pad layout, a lot of thought has gone behind developing this phone. Since its induction in june 2007, the phone has received rave reviews.
The phone is sized at 102×48x17mm and weighs 118g. The display is a healthy 240×320 pixels with an 2.2 inch screen. It has an extensive 1000×20 field phone book. The phone possesses an adequate 40 MB internal memory plus provision for M2 / micro SD card. EDGE, 3G (HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps(k850i only) and GPRS (Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots),32-48 kbps) has been included but lacks WLAN. Bluetooth is v2.0 with A2DP.
The camera is perhaps the biggest attraction in this flagship model. A 5 MP, 2592?1944 pixels, autofocus, video (QVGA@30fps ), xenon flash and 3LED video light, auto lens cover, secondary video call camera does justice. Sony Ericsson K850 is the first Sony Ericsson camera phone to offer the much appreciated Cyber-shot SE v2.0, inspired by Sony’s T series digital cameras. Another thoughtful feature is that the autofocus mode automatically changes to macro when a close object is chosen to shoot. However the video is less impressive with QVGA resolution at 30fps.
The Sony Ericsson K850 is powered by a Li-poly Bst-38battery with a power capacity of 930 mAh, a deviation from the standard BST-33 Li-poly battery used in other Cybershots. The result is an extended stand by time of 400 hours and 9 hours talktime in GSM networks. Under intense power usage applications like extensive calls, media player, gaming, browsing etc the camera lasts for roughly 36 hours
The biggest asset for this phone is undoubtedly the trusted Cybershot logo. There have been serious upgrades in interface and ergonomics, but the phone as a whole possesses some negatives. Not everybody finds the ‘innovative ‘D –pad hot. Another comment that has come up is on the lack of Wi-Fi and Infrared. The package has been designed by Sony Ericsson to woo beyond the brand loyal consumers.
