Amy Brenneman Biogrpahy

The Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actress Amy Brenneman was born in New London, Connecticut on June 22, 1964. She participated in theater when she was a teenager in school as well as at a local theater group in Glastonbury, Connecticut, where she was raised. She majored in comparative religion and graduated from Harvard University. She co-founded the Cornerstone Theater Company while she was at Harvard, in 1987, and she traveled around with them for several years after she had graduated.
Amy's mother, Frederica, is a superior court judge who served on the Connecticut State Supreme Court and her father Russell L. Brenneman, is an environmental lawyer.
In 1995, in a beautiful garden setting at her parents home, Brenneman married director Brad Silberling. They have two beautiful children together, Charlotte Tucker and Bodhi Russell. Brad and Amy are both founding members of the Cornerstone Theater Company Inc. in Los Angeles, California.
Amy's first major television role was NYPD Blue, where she played the mob-connected officer Janice Licalsi. She later appeared in several films, which include Casper, Heat, Fear, Daylight and Nevada. Then during the 1998-1999 seasons, she had a brief recurring role on Frasier. No matter what role Amy portrays, many enjoy her work.
In 1999, Brenneman became creator and excutive producer of the television series Judging Amy, in which she also starred. Brenneman portrayed a divorced single mother working as a Family Court Judge in Hartford, Connecticut. The show's concept was based on the real-life experiences of her mother, Frederica Brenneman, as a superior court judge in the state of Connecticut. Judging Amy ran on CBS for six seasons and 138 episodes from September 19, 1999 to May 3, 2005 to good ratings. Frederica Brenneman was one of Harvard Law School's first female graduates and became a juvenile court judge in Connecticut when Amy was 3 years old. Amy has said, "I play my mother's job, not my mother."
In March 2007, Brenneman was cast to co-star in the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, Private Practice.[4]
