Barbara Yung was one of the most enigmatic and vibrant stars to light up the Hong Kong film world. This glamorous actress hit television in 1982, with the series ‘Sup Sam Mui’ (The Legend of the Unknowns). The story was set in the Ching Dynasty period. However, it was her role in the series ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes’, that made her famous during the 1980’s in not just Hong Kong, but also in other part in of South Asia such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Barbara Yung was a classic beauty with exceptional acting talents. Born into an affluent civil service family and also an only child, she had the best from her family. The many series in which she took on roles include ‘The Sandwich Man’, ‘The Rough Ride’, ‘The Fearless Duo’, ‘United We Stand’, ‘The Foundation’, ‘The Battlefield’, and ‘The Adventures of Chor Lau Heung’.

However matters took a tragic turn when she was found to be suddenly unconscious as a result of gas inhalation in her apartment in May 1985. When she was taken to the hospital she was declared dead. The star, who thrilled everyone with her beauty and talents, was no longer there to light up the silver screen.

Her funeral was big event, attended by many celebrities and thousands of fans. Co-stars and friends such as Miu Kiu-wai, Felix Wong, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Andy Lau were her casket’s pallbearers. The funeral was a Catholic funeral, but she was cremated and her ashes placed in the New Market Road Cemetery in Cambridge, England.
