Bernadette Peters

Born into an Italia American family and youngest of the three children in her family, Bernadette Peters began her career in the entertainment world at a very young age. She is not just a well-known actress, but also a great singer. Her initial appearances were in the stage, and much of her stage performances were seen during the 1960’s. In the 1970’s she switched over to doing roles in film and television.

Her most notable roles were in the musicals ‘Song and Dance’, ‘Annie Get Your Gun’, ‘Sunday in the Park with George’, and ‘Into the Woods’. In films, she is well remembered for her roles in ‘The Jerk’ and ‘Pennies from Heaven’. In both these films she stars with Steve Martin. ‘Pennies from Heaven’ earned her a Golden Globe Award in the category of Best Motion Picture Actress in a Comedy or Musical.

She has done guest appearances in popular television series ‘The Muppet Show’ (1977) and ‘Ally McBeal’ (2001). Roles in both series earned her Emmy award nominations. She also received an Emmy award nomination in the category of Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Special, for the television movie ‘Bobbie’s Girl’. Her most recent television appearance is as a judge in the series ‘Boston Legal’, a defense attorney in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and as a sharp speaking sister of Karen Walker in Will & Grace.

In 1996, she married Michael Wittenberg who is a real estate advisor. However, her husband unfortunately passed away in a helicopter accident in 2005.
