Bernie Mac

Bernie Mac is an American actor, as well as a popular comedian. He began his career as a stand-up comedian. His first comedy shows were with Chicago’s Cotton Club. The turning point in his life came at the age of 32, when he won the Miller Lite Comedy Search, after which his popularity as a comedian bean to grow.

It was HBO’s Def Comedy Jam that brought out the star quality inside him. In course of time, he has his own talk show on HBO named Midnight Mac. Though it was a short-lived show it gave him the require exposure. His next big break came with the film ‘Friday’(1995). Notable performances can be seen in films ‘Booty Call’, ‘How to Be a Player’, and ‘Life and What’s the Worst That Could Happen?’.

What set Bernie Mac apart from other traditional African American comedians was that he was able to move away from being slotted as an just a comedian and was able to land parts in films like ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, Charlie’s Angels sequel ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’, and ‘Bad Santa’.

His 1997 tour of Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Hughley, further boosted his career. She is listed as number 72 on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 greatest standups of all time. However he has recently announced that he would retire on David Letterman Show, following the completion of the comedy film ‘The Whole Truth, Nothing but the Truth, So Help Me Mac’.
