Beyoncé Giselle Knowles
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is one of the most talented women in the entertainment industry being a singer, dancer, actress, songwriter, producer and director for music videos.
Born in Houston, Texas, Knowles showed a keen interest in music throughout her childhood. At the age of seven, she was a soloist in her church’s choir. She was encouraged and supported to join many competitions by her dance instructor and this led her to win about thirty local singing and dancing competitions. She went to the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a teenager to further develop her musical talents.
Knowles began her singing career by doing work with the R&B group and during the time they worked together they released many successful albums. In 2001, she won the Songwriter of the Year award and in doing so, was the first African-American women to make such a tremendous achievement.
In 2003, she released a solo album, Dangerously in Love. This album was hugely popular and it topped the charts in the U.K and the U.S. She won five Emmy awards for it. In 2006, she released her second album B’Day and she earned a Grammy award on it.
Her acting career is also taking off. In 2006, she landed a role in comedy ‘The Pink Panther’ and also a role in the musical film ‘Dreamgirls’. The film earned her two Golden Globe Award nominations, while it was nominated for eight academy awards.
Knowles, her family members and Kelly Rowland have set up a the Survivor Foundation, which helps out 2005 Hurricane Katrina victims and storm evacuees in the Houston, Texas area, by offering them a means for transitional housing.
