ACT Exam Info Sample Questions

The ACT is an examination conducted for students who seek admissions in the United States colleges. This examination was created by Everett Franklin Lindquist as a competition to the prevailing SAT exams.

A students’ skill is tested in the areas of English, Mathematics, Reading and Scientific reasoning. A new optional writing skill was introduced in the 2005. Almost all the four year colleges and universities accept the ACT score but different institutions have their own methods of evaluation.

The test is formated as follows:
English consists of 75 questions to be answered in 45 minutes.
Mathematics consists of 60 questions to be answered in 60 minutes.
Reading consists of 40 questions to be answered in 35 minutes.
Science Reasoning consists of 40 questions to be answered in 35 minutes.
Writing skill consists of 1 essay question to be answered in 30 minutes.

Passage 1
Various methods are used to estimate the number of microorganisms in a culture. One method utilizes a spectrophotometer to measure the density of organisms in a broth medium. Density indicates the quantity of organisms in a given volume.
In this method, a beam of light is passed through the broth medium. The density of microorganisms in the broth is inversely proportional to the intensity of the light that passes through the broth. A meter is used to indicate the percentage of light transmitted through the medium.
