Software interview questions may include the questions on software, primarily at developers’ level. There is a whole host of software available on the face of earth. Different software may run on different platforms. Software interview questions may cover a vast area of study including programming language, operating system, middleware, debugging, embedded systems, scripts, testing, web related, version control, client server, networking, servers, data warehouse, editors, artificial intelligence, Microsoft related, mainframe, HR questions, telecom, cryptography, database, software design, ERP CRM and EAI. All of these segments are again divided into several sub-segments. For example, programming language can be subdivided into C, C++, Java, VC++, Delphi and many other programming languages.

General and specific questions

The interviewer may ask about the personalized view concerning the area of software development. Additionally, the interviewer may also inquire about few questions to asses knowledge regarding different software which may include definition of object oriented programming, essential elements of object oriented programming, object oriented designing methodology, project management software, reasons of failure of particular project, important aspects of GUI design, etc.

While asking specific questions, the interviewer may only focus on your ability that is suitable to the job requirements. For example, if you have seen an advertisement on Java developer and applied for the same, it has the high probability that the interviewer will ask you questions regarding Java technology, not much about other areas of study. In fact, the interviewer may not even ask you anything about C or C++ unless become particularly relevant to the situation.

Questions to ask to the interviewer

An effective interview process is double-sided. So you have all the rights to ask relevant questions to the interviewer as well. You may consider asking a variety of questions regarding the software process, version control, build process, bug tracking system, unit testing, system testing, quality assurance, detection of bugs, etc. Additionally you may also inquire about the working environment and working culture by considering the questions like working hours, motivation of employees, reason for opening of the post concerned, distinct advantage in the marketplace, no. of training conducted, etc.
