William Blaine Richardson, otherwise known as Bill Richardson is a candidate for the 2008 elections for President of the United States. A member of the Democratic Party, he currently serves as the Governor of Mexico. In the past he has held Government offices as U.S. Secretary of Energy, Ambassador to the United Nations and a U.S. Representative. Richardson has headed the 2004 Democratic National Convention as well as the Democratic Governor’s Association (2005 and 2006).

William Blaine RichardsonRichardson is known to have negotiated the release of political prisoners, hostages and American Servicemen in Iraq, Cuba and North Korea. He has to his name a staggering five nominations for the coveted Noble Peace Prize. Richardson was born in Pasadena in the state of California on the 15th of November, 1947. Richardson gave up a promising career in volleyball to attend college. Richardson graduated from Tufts University majoring in Political science and French. He also acquired a Master’s Degree from Fletcher school of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts. Bill Richardson had been an U.S. Congressman for fourteen years, paying special attention to foreign relations. As a representative of the United States, Richardson has visited Peru, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Sudan, Nigeria, India, Bangladesh, and North Korea. He has been the Chairman of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Native American Affairs at the 103rd session of Congress and has also headed the Congressional Hispanic Caucus at the 98th session of Congress.

As a U.S representative, Richardson has passed bills like the American Indian Religious Freedom Act Amendments, the American Indian Trust Fund Management Reform Act, the Indian Tribal Justice Act, the Indian Dams Safety Act, the Indian Tribal Jurisdiction Bill, the Tribal Self-Governance Act, the Jicarilla Apache Tribe Water Rights Settlement Act and the American Indian Agricultural Resource Management Act. In 1997, Richardson was appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations by President Clinton. A year later, still part of the Clinton administration, Richardson stepped into the post of U.S. Secretary of Energy. Richardson’s candidacy for the elections was announced on the 21st of January 2007, on a television show, The Week on ABC network.
