India Gate – Raj Path in New Delhi
India Gate was manufactured to honor the seventy thousands Indian soldiers who gone their lives in the war for the British army. It is located on the Raj Path in Delhi. This structure also carries the name of about 13, 516 Indian and British Soldiers destroyed throughout the Afghanistan fighting in 1919. The foundation sandstone of India Gate was set down by the Duke of Connaught in 1921 and was designed by Edward Lutyens (popular British architect). This was Lord Irwin who devoted India Gate to the country in the year 1931. Afterward, other monument, the everlasting soldier’s flame or Amar Jawan Jyoti was added to the memorial. Since 1971, the Amar Jawan Jyoti is flaming to remind the land of soldiers who gone their lives in the Indo-Pakistan fighting.
The height of India Gate is just about 42 m and the complete arch sets on a low base of red stone and increases in phases to a vast molding. From the bottom of the arch of India Gate on both sides is adorned INDIA. There is a big area of lush green lawns adjoining the India Gate. It is definitely one of the most traveled places of Delhi. The lawns of India Gate stir with persons, especially in the summer. The lawns of India Gate abode the famous children’s park and boat club. This gives extreme beauty to this famous structure.
