John Herman Cox

John Herman Cox is an American lawyer, businessman, accountant and broadcaster. His aspirations of becoming a politician have taken him far and now he is one of the Republican candidates for the Presidential Elections of 2008. Although he has never held a government position higher than the board of education, he is hopeful of being nominated by the Republican Party for the post of President of the United States. Born in Chicago on the 15th of July 1955, Cox graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago majoring in political science and accounting. He is also a graduate of IIT – Chicago-Kent College of Law.

John Herman CoxJohn Cox is known for his charity work, he has associated himself with many a charitable organization to help the needy. A chapter of Rebuilding Together, an institution which has branches all over the country, was created by Cox who has also worked with charitable institutions like Boys Hope/Girls Hope, the American Cancer Society and United Charities, FireWorks for Kids Foundation and the USO. In the year 2000, Cox lost out to Mark Kirk while running, in the 10th Congressional District of Illinois, for Congress. Two years later in Illinois, alongside “Reagan Republicans”, Cox ran for Senate but eventually lost out to Jim Durkin. Later, Cox headed the Cook County, Illinois as the president. Early in 2006, Cox became the first from the Republican Party to declare his candidacy for nomination for the 2008 elections. Cox has been campaigning heavily in states like Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire since March of 2006.

Cox has put forward his view on the situation in Iraq stating that providing employment opportunities to Iraqis would help bring an end to the violence. Numerous nationwide polls have shown that Cox is lagging behind other Republicans in the race for the office of President which has led to his exclusion in most of the presidential debates for the Republican candidates. It has been widely reported that Cox, aware of his lack of support from the masses, has given up on his dream of becoming President. His fundraising campaign has been an immense disappointment as well and it has been reported that he has secured the least funds amongst all the presidential candidates.
