Roshan
AdvertisementThe Indian film industry has preferred films that appeal to all segments of the audience, and has resisted making films that target narrow audiences. It was believed that aiming for a broad spectrum would maximize box office receipts. However, filmmakers may be moving towards accepting some box-office segmentation, between films that appeal to rural Indians and films that appeal to urban and overseas audiences. Indian audiences expect full value for their money, with a good entertainer generally referred to as paisa vaool. Roshan seems to be romantic thriller featuring Soldier fame Bobby Deol and rapidly rising Kangna Ranaut who played a film star in the movie Woh Lamhe. The movie is also casting Dwij Yadav and Atul Agnihotri; the movie will be directed by Sameer Karnik. Bobby of course is now a favorite of Karnik. The movie will be released on 29th of august, 2008 in Hindi language only.
In an intriguing reprise of his earlier film, Karnik brings together Bobby and his Nanhe co-start Dwij in ROSHAN, thrown in for good measure. According to sources, Bobby Deol plays a doctor in Roshan. Both the movies are designed as intimate art house products meant to be carried to film festivals. According to a source Nanhe and now Roshan, both are Bobby’s passport to the festival circuit. The movie is to be produced by Eros Entertainment and the cinematography of the movie will be done by inimitable Binod Pradhan. The shooting of the movie will be started on 6th of May. The shooting will be done in the film city only. The cassettes and CD’s will be provided by Eros Music. The music will be in the form of song-and-dance numbers woven into the script. A film’s success often depends on the quality of such musical numbers. Indeed, a film’s music is often released before the movie itself and helps increase the audience.
Managing a hatrick of sorts, Samir Karnik’s all three movies are completing for awards of some kind or another. Nanhe jaisalmer (2006) has been sent as a nominee for the national awards and the other two movies namely Roshan and Heroes have gone to Cannes in the competition category. Both the latter movies are set for release in 2008. Although Nanhe Jaisalmer didn’t do so well at the box-office, Karnik believe that it’s worth for the national award. The film is based on the ideology of faith and belief. In trilogy of sorts, the other two movies are also based on similar human ideologies. Where Heroes explores the pride side of it, Roshan delves into the hope factor of life.
