Kanchipuram is a city of Tamil Nadu. This golden city of temples is the oldest city and also regarded as one of the sacred city in South India. In old times, it was popular as Kachi and Kachiampathi. People of this city familiar with Tamil and with Sanskrit. Kanchipuram is situated on the Palar River. It is famous for its temples and for the silk sarees. Kanchipuram is also well known for its culture and civilization. Kanchipuram is also popular as Silk City. Kanchipuram sprawls over 11.6 square km. Its altitude is near sea level. Languages mostly spokes are Tamil, Telegu and English. There are many big temples, one is Ekambaranatha Temple of Lord Shiva, in this temple The people worshipped the Lord Shiva as Prithiv Lingam Some more temples are as Sri Kalahasti, Thiruvanaikoil, Kailasanathar Temple, Tiruvannamalai, Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kamakshi Amman Temple, Kachapeshwarar Temple and thousands big temples. Almost temples are built by the Pallavas. The silk sarees are woven manually by the Kanchipuram’s people and are considered as best quality sarees. About 400 years ago, the Kanchipuram’s people began to show interest in weaving profession. Every South Indian has at least one Kanchipuram sarees in her sarees collection. It is estimated that more then 5,000 families are engaged in the weaving profession in Kanchipuram. There a great variety and imaginable design are available in the different colors of Kanchipuram sarees.

In order to spread Buddhism in China, Bodhidharma preached some Buddhism ideologies and also teach the people about the art of Varmakkalai. This art is popular in Japan as karate and judo. There are a number of educational institutions are in Kanchipuram as Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Maha Vidyalaya (SCSVMV), SRR Engineering college. Pallavan College of Engineering, Pallavan Polytechnic, Pallavan College of Pharmacy, Bakthavachalam Polytechnic and many more colleges and some old schools are also there which often has a state level ranking. Festivals that are celebrated in Kanchipuram are Brahmotsavam, Garuda Sevai, Float festival, Kamakshi Amman festival, Mahashivaratri Festival and Panguni Uthiram. A number of tourists sports are Uthiramerur, Mahabalipuram, Arinagar Anna Zoological Park, Kalpakkam rector research center, Vedanthangal birds century and Queen’s Land theme park.
