Resume and Cover Letter Guide

Job seekers need to market themselves effectively using their resume and cover letter as the main tools. In order to prepare these documents a job seeker will need to realistically look at his accomplishments, experience and skills in relation to the target job.

Resume guide

Your performance in a job interview is what will eventually help you make it or break it. But your resume is what will help you make it to the interview. If you don’t get this right then you may not even get the chance to perform in an interview.

In order to create a resume that will help you get in the short list you need to follow certain guidelines. You have to mention all your work history, experience, skills and achievements, education, honors and awards, qualifications, hobbies etc. The question is how to mention them in order to have an impact on the recruiting party.

A good way to make sure your resume is going along the right lines is to make sure you use a lot of industry related terms. Obviously these terms should be relative to your job. The human resource department is only generally briefed about the kind of skills to look for in people. Hence you should make mention of those skills lest your resume is disregarded.

In the experience section you should aim to jot down all that you have under your belt. You should make special mention of any unique skills that you have acquired whether relevant or not. Alternatively if you have a skill that you are not very well acquainted with but it is relative to the job then you should not hesitate to mention it even if you know very little.

Finally you must make sure that your resume intrigues the interviewer as well as supplies them with the information that they need. A well balanced resume which clearly explains how you would be a source of benefit to the company is what you should be looking to achieve. All this should be nicely composed so that it looks physically appealing as well.

Cover letter

You will also need to accompany your resume with a cover letter. This is a piece of writing that serves as the official introduction to your resume. It puts forward your qualifications as well as availability to the recruiting party.

Your aim should be to compose cover letter that incites prospective employer to review your resume. All professional resume writers unanimously agree that a resume should be accompanied with a cover letter.

The nature of the cover letter should be such that it is clear in the message that it is trying to get across and it should be to the point. It should allow the reader to scan over it in a matter of seconds. The content should be focused around your experiences and how they can be of benefit for the position applied for. Along with this your cover letter should have a brief summer of the highlighting aspects of your career.
